Dr. Atima Pathak in a Lec Dem
Nothing
will ever be attempted if all possible objections must be first overcome.
- Samuel Johnson
The greatest
hurdle in the fight against cancer is the myth which is deeply etched in our
minds that cancer means death & death alone. Awareness is the first bullet
which we need to fire if we have to ever attempt to win the battle against
this disease. The Trust understood this & lays immense stress on this aspect
& undertook several modes to bring about Awareness.
October
The Month Breast cancer Awareness
The Trust Designates October As the Month of Breast cancer Awareness like the
rest of the world. During this period Lec Dems are organized wherein a lady
doctor enlightens women about this malady ,a video cassette on breast Self examination
is shown & pertinent literature distributed. Nearly 5750 women have been educated
in about 125 lec-dems. There has been an overwhelming response to this program.
This year in addition 74 women were sponsored for mammograms.
Anti
Tobacco Campaign
The drive against usage of Tobacco was commenced rightly on World No Tobacco
Day, 31.5.00. Posters were displayed in Railway Stations & Bus stands, Lectures
addressed & literature distributed. At least 25 men pledged to quit smoking
that day. It is now known that the 1st cigarette is invariably smoked during
the 10th std vacation. To bring awareness to this group of Naïve teenagers painting
