The greatest hurdle in the fight against cancer is the myth which is deeply etched in our minds that cancer means death & death alone. Awareness is the first bullet which we need to fire if we have to ever attempt to win the battle against this disease. The Trust understood this & lays immense stress on this aspect & undertook several modes to bring about Awareness.

October The Month Breast cancer Awareness
The Trust Designates October As the Month of Breast cancer Awareness like the rest of the world. During this period Lec Dems are organized wherein a lady doctor enlightens women about this malady ,a video cassette on breast Self examination is shown & pertinent literature distributed. Nearly 5750 women have been educated in about 125 lec-dems. There has been an overwhelming response to this program. This year in addition 74 women were sponsored for mammograms.
Anti Tobacco Campaign
The drive against usage of Tobacco was commenced rightly on World No Tobacco Day, 31.5.00. Posters were displayed in Railway Stations & Bus stands, Lectures addressed & literature distributed. At least 25 men pledged to quit smoking that day. It is now known that the 1st cigarette is invariably smoked during the 10th std vacation. To bring awareness to this group of Naïve teenagers painting competitions followed by talk shows were held.

To educate the masses at large a monthly newsletter is being published since Feb. 2000. .Each month it deals about one type of cancer & enlists their symptoms. In addition it also mentions the activities of the trust & carries its appeals.
Medical Updates
Veterans in the field of Cancer in India have given commemorative talks on the Anniversary day ,4th December. Dr. Mammen Chandy ,CMC ,Vellore, Dr. V .Shanta, Cancer Institute, Adyar, Chennai, Dr. P.P.Bapsy ,Kidwai Memorial Centre, Bangalore ,Dr. Gangadharan ,RCC, Trivandrum & Dr. Pankaj Shah ,Gujarat Cancer Institute, Ahmedabad, have addressed on recent trends & important aspects of cancer care.

Other Measures
Specific talks like cancer In Men & Cancer in women were held on W.H.O Day & Women 's Day evoking good response. An unique program of educating pilgrims was attempted in Feb 2000 which was very rewarding. Awareness stalls were also put in popular fairs ,Office 2000 , NGO Mela
